The physical abilities on this site are something new. They're an ambitious project that came as a result of the series Magi not being 100% about mage, unlike Fairy Tail. If there is one part of the site that I think will be done a few times until we get it right, I think they will be it.
For those that don't fully comprehend yet. Physical abilities are abilities that don't use magic. They could be hand-to-hand skills, weapon skills or abnormalities. Any character can have physical skills, but a mage will naturally be worse with them than a non-mage. There's also the option to have 'Brawler' in place of a magic type. That gives a few benefits over the average non-mage.
I would like to hear what everyone thinks about the physical abilities, and what they contribute. And then I would like to bring up something the staff, and some members, have been discussing.
Right now the Brawler type gives mage the same physical capabilities as non-mage, and allows any character to perform physical feats a normal physical ability couldn't do. There has been some concern that physical abilities shooting flames and wind slashes would give non-mage an advantage because they don't use magic. Here are some ideas we've been discussing.
Physical abilities involve weapons, hand-to-hand and abnormalities. We have discussed breaking up the Brawler type so that there are 3 branches, each covering one of those. What we are unsure of is whether we should have Brawler be one type, and have members choose one of those 3 branches, or if Brawler should be broken up into 3 types. We are also unsure if one of those types is necessary.
Those branches, regardless if they were their own magic type or branches of Brawler, would be Brawler, Weapon Master and Augments.
Brawler would allow mage to be as skilled with physical abilities as non-mage and give the character access to opening their bodies' limiters. With each limiter they would increase their physical stats by 10%, but when the effect ends they will sustain some damage based on how many limiters they removed.
Weapon Master would be able to use pseudo-scientific means to explain almost magical attacks. For example, they could slash stone to add a flame to the end of a blade. This is the one we are unsure because it's a lot like Holder. The only difference is that this doesn't use magic.
Augments would be advance abnormalities. Without the Augment or Brawler type characters could have tails or claws or wings, but with it they could go as far as to have poison sacs, regeneration or mechanical limbs with guns on them.
Based on what you have read here, I would like to hear the thoughts of our members. Anything you can contribute would be appreciated.
