The blonde blinked wide-eyed as she listened to what her companion said, about how he felt that his life was a lie. How could it feel like that? She didn’t understand, but she felt bad for her new friend as she watched him seem to disintegrate right in front of her eyes. He seemed different and tears had formed at the corners of his eyes, something that made her frown. She placed a hand on his shoulder, offering him a small, warm smile as she tried to turn him to face her. “Hey, hey…” Her voice was soothing, soft and gentle, a tone she often used when helping her friends. “You aren’t a joke, Ald. You’re my friend, and whatever it is you feel, I’m willing to listen and help in any way I can. Okay?” She continued, nodding her head as if to decide for the young man. She couldn’t stand seeing other people downtrodden, and she felt that it was her duty to make them happy again if such an occasion transpired. That being said, her new friend seemed determined to get intoxicated as he continued pouring drinks for himself. His face reddened as the alcohol took its effect on him, and she looked at him with sideways glances every so often as he continued drinking the wine like it was water. She began to notice how he stared at her, and he suddenly stated that she was a beautiful woman, something that caught her completely off-guard. Her eyes widened and a small pink tint covered her cheeks at the compliment, but she waved him off uneasily, acting as if she didn’t believe such a thing as opposed to proving that she was uncomfortable with such an advancement. “Well thank you, Ald.” She said warily, speaking slower than usual as she assessed his situation. Well, he was far from sober, that much was obvious. He regressed all the more with the more they drank, and although Ellie was fairly intoxicated, not helped by her earlier drunkenness, her companion seemed to be much more affected by it than she did. Her attention was grabbed when he said her name, and as she turned to face him curiously she noticed that he was inching closer to her. Her reactions felt much slower than she would have liked, and as Ald approached to kiss her, she barely managed to move before he pressed his lips against hers. She could sense how embarrassed and awkward the blonde felt, and the alcohol always drove people to do strange things; to that much she could testify for sure. She gently and firmly placed her hands on his shoulders, eyes fluttering open as she broke the kiss, albeit in a gentle, non-hurtful manner. She didn’t wish to trample on her friend, but she didn’t return his obvious romantic feelings for her. “ Ald.” She looked at him, not letting go of his shoulders as their faces were kept close, but mainly for her to express her seriousness. “I know that the alcohol is probably taking control. But it’s okay.” She smiled at him, tilting her head to the side as she leant back, keeping one hand reassuringly on his shoulder as she removed the other. “We’re friends, dear. As sweet as you are, I don’t feel that way for you. And I’m sure that you don’t like me that way either, it’s just the alcohol talking.” She felt awful for saying as much, but she didn’t wish to hurt him by going along with this and dumping him afterwards. She wanted to keep him as a friend, because she enjoyed his company.
