I feel the class system has done its job. That is, it has allowed members to be more creative while also defining their characters more. However, at the same time it has given members too many options to choose from, and they do not know what to go with. Here are some things to consider.
Classes come in several varieties. They also do not need to be the end all, be all of your character. A character can start with one class and then as they develop it could be traded for another class. Or the character's class could reflect something of their character or their history.
Now to start I will point out the following:
Freebie School: The staff have decided that every character can have one school that does not fit snuggly with their theme. That one school would include racial stuff like scales or wings, or weapons and tools or a heirloom. If you cannot think of a fourth school then you could use it as a weapon skill school. In that way it is good to think of what weapons would fit your class. Or, if not weapons, what items; or if they do have any abnormalities that would benefit from this.
Canon Schools: In the series there is Requip, Celestial spirit, Archive, etc. Magics. I am not saying that all magics from the series are fair game, but those magics like the ones I just listed can be chosen for schools. They can also be tweaked a little to supplement other schools.
Next there are developmental things to think of:
Race: A Race can be a school. Being a succubus or an imp can take up four schools. If you can only think of three schools for a race, well, use the fourth one for magical items. Or go 50/50 between race and items. If your character is a race that can evolve or develop, then you could start with schools for the weaker variation of the race, and then adding the third and fourth schools could signify reaching a new level of the race.
Profession: FREELANCER, Thief, Assassin. Your class theme could be a profession, and the schools can be tools in the profession. This is actually where the name class came from, and the set up was derived from. RPG games have professions like this and in games like warcraft they have schools that their abilities fall into. Still in mind that you could use the fourth school for profession tools or weapons.
Curses: The fourth school can also be used to explain curses or other misfortunate traits. The less these benefit your character the more you can get away with in ability form.
Hobbies: A character interested in botany may know more about plants than other people. They could find herbs or food quicker than other people. A character's class can be based on one or more of their hobbies.
Treasures/Artifacts/Missions: Characters may receive artifacts or go on missions that change their character. For example, an artifact in an assassin set may coerce the character to want to do more with that profession. They may end up adding a school based around it, or changing another school into one. Keep in mind that abilities could reference Artifacts like they can any other magical item.
With all of that covered there is the matter of Lost Magic.
Lost Magic do not have to be magic. They're really just rare or one of a kind classes that are allowed a bit more because they're canon spots. The most obvious Lost magics are Dragon and God Slayers. However, other choices can be made. There seems to have been some trouble choosing them though. Classes that would count for Lost Magic include:
A Lost Magic slot would not enable a character to be a dragon or god. The dragons have all disappeared 7 years ago and the has been no encounters with gods. On the topic of gods, there are two definitions of gods to be used. There are God Gods, the creators of everything. Members cannot make up those gods. That is a site decision. Then there are pseudo god gods. If you are going to reference a real world god it will be a pseudo god. These are less gods and more legends that did not really exist, or just powerful mage that were considered close to gods.
If there is still any confusion with regards to Lost Magic, ask a staff.
Eventually I will list some examples of classes.
