(Sorry for the delay, didn't see we had started.)
A tournament, finally, something to preoccupy him in a way that didn't require doing a mission of some sort. This was a form of vacation for him, and it was really rather simple what he would be doing. This a gladiatorial tournament, one that didn't allow magic of any kind, and resulted in just fight of the blade, body and mind. And Kai had an excess of all three. He was regularly a requip mage, but the tournament officials had him turn in all of his weapons before he registered and that was why he only had his regular clothing, a set of comfy leather armor, his scarf, and his cloak, all of which were black. He had been in the staging area and watching the viewing Lacrima when the first competitors in the competition were announced, and to his slight surprise, he was one of them. True, he wouldn't be able to watch fights before fighting, but this also meant that he would be at peak condition. He was awake now, which wasn't guaranteed to last throughout the day, but this way he knew he was ready.
From the looks of it on the small Lacrima, the crowd outside had been huge, they had showed up for a fantastic event, and he was ready to give it to them. He had quickly headed out of the waiting room and down to the arena, cracking his knuckles and neck, and pumping himself up. His heart was starting to beat faster, his blood was starting to race, and he felt that familiar sense of adrenaline coursing through his veins. It was the sign of inevitable combat. It was only now that he realized that he had forgotten what the other name that had been called was, he thought it had been a girl's name...but then again, it might have been a boys...
Nearing the door to the fighting area, Kai pulled the hood of his cloak up and over his head, covering his face and white hair in shadow, and giving him an air of mystery. Crowds loved it when someone like this showed up, someone who little was known about and who could hardly be seen, plus it could allow him to observe his opponent without them reading his face. The large gate opened before him, but he didn't walk out, and simply watched across the arena for his competition. Sure enough, a figure emerged before him, a girl, and she immediately made a beeline for the weapons rack on her side of the arena. Kai continued to wait, only until the girl had chosen a short sword and shield, at which point, Kai finally entered the arena and heard the roar of the crowd for the first time.
As he had thought the number of people there was large, and they were all calling out to the arena, calling for a battle, calling for blood. And while he wasn't very inclined to hurt a girl, he knew that there were some who could care for themselves, his girlfriend Ellie was evidence of that. His cloak fluttered around him as he went to his weapon rack, his weapon of choice already in mind. When it came to swords there was a rule that often had to be considered; you must have reach. The girl had chosen a short sword, he estimated that it was about two feet long, if the one on his rack was anything to judge by, so he just needed to beat that range and get around the shield. Reaching out, he grabbed the 3 foot long sword and pulled it from its scabbard, this was nice and sharp, unlike that short sword which was visibly blunt.
A smirk crossed his face as he turned to face the girl, he would fight as hard as needed, and if that girl pushed him to, he would fight at his best, but he doubted that would be necessary. Now he walked out of the shadow cast by the wall of the arena and into the sun to join his opponent in the center of the arena, which was made of tiled stone. He stopped about fifteen feet from her and pointed the tip of the blade in her direction. His face was still in shadow as he spoke, "How good are you with a sword and shield? Because from the look of it, you haven't used them in unison before." Of course, Kai had no idea if she had, but if he could get into her head early in the competition, then he might be able to distract her later during the fight.
