It hasn’t been long. Really, it hasn’t. The young woman kept telling herself as she walked down a well-worn dirt path. She and Nexus, a young man that she owed her life to, had managed to evade her ex-master’s foot soldiers and now she was waiting for him to return from his errand. Now while she didn’t know where they were, Mizuki hoped that they were far, far away from Balbadd. Her eyes took a quick glance around the small town they had stopped in, and noted that everyone seemed to be minding their own business. Peaceful and quiet. Boring.

Mizuki bit her lip and continued to cautiously move to the edge of town and towards the forest it was built next to. Her chains, still intact and looking as new as it was forged, clinked together with her every movement. She winced and looked around again. None of the townsmen seemed to care about her status as a slave. That, or they simply didn’t know. Once she was out sight and aimlessly strolling the fine line between the town and forest edges, the young woman took the time to appreciate her new clothing.

It was a one piece dress with a tank top shoulder style, fitting her upper figure before flaring out and flowing at her waist. She frowned at it a little. It was pretty with its oceanic blue hue and little wave designs, but Mizuki was never one to wear dresses even if she had been forced to wear them back in the small mansion. Then she glanced at her feet and frowned. The silver chains clamping around her sore and carefully bandaged ankles still glinted brightly in the shadows.

Well, it would be soon that she would be rid of them forever. Her companion had gone off to find his friend that was supposedly near the town. He was only going to be gone for a few days, but already Mizuki was more paranoid than usual. At every slight movement or nonexistent sound, she would jump slightly and glance over her shoulder. Nothing was ever there; however, Mizuki found herself freezing when a group of large bushes began to rustle.

Swallowing thickly, she called out, ”Hello? Anyone there?”It shook again but no one or nothing responded. Mizuki took a small step forward, a somewhat idiotic move on her part, but she thought… What if someone one needed help? ”If you’re hurt… Just say so and I’ll go get help.”Another step, less cautious this time. ”Excuse me? Are you there?”

The Venator Program. A little project designed by a group of business men who thought it more profitable to barter living weapons, instead of simple magical ones. After all, magical weapons had a tendency to only be as strong as the user's magical capability. Its popularity wasn't what they had in mind, and so, they came upon the idea of selling trained mages. Trained soldiers. Trained killers. Trained living weapons. Picking up orphans from the street, they were fed with a distinct type of lacrima to not only amplify their magical growth, but also numb their brains as well, depriving them of any individual thought. They were thrown into countless impossible simulated situations, made to survive deadly environments and murder sometimes even their own comrades, all to produce a soldier obedient without question and lethal without doubt. And when they were adults, they were sold to the highest bidder. And they always turn up a profit. What makes them so deadly? Their mutations. The lacrima caused their magical growth to become unnatural, up to the point it starts to twist their bodies as well. These soldiers had the capability to turn into monstrous beings, true predators.

And sometimes, they fall into their bestial nature, and lose control of their own.

Such was the occasion here, as the being that Mizuki was attempting to converse with finally revealed itself. A giant scaly creature with a mouth that stretched from one end of its expanded face to the other. It had gills on the side of its neck, and fins on its head, arms and back. It was clad in nothing but a pair of torn pants, indicating that this may have been human once. Its fingers were webbed and clawed, and its eyes were pitch black against its turquoise skin. It opened its jaw, releasing a loud hissing roar, with nothing but hunger within its gaze. And without further warning, it charged at Mizuki.

It would never reach its mark, though, as from behind the black-haired beauty, another humanoid monster would whiz past, though this one looked more human than the former. He had brown hair, with black orbs upon his forehead. His jaw and neck were covered in exoskeleton, and on the side of his chin were two elongated fangs, akin to that of a spider's. He was clad in a dark blue shirt with torn sleeves at the shoulder, revealing arms covered in the same plates of exoskeleton. A pair of black pants followed, and his feet would be bare as well, plated as well with the toes elongated with claws at the end. Whoever this stranger was, he was fast, and strong, for all he needed to do was dive shoulder-first into the creature's abdomen and the monster was thrown back towards the bush, landing just short of it.

The latter would straighten himself, before turning back to Mizuki.

"Go, get out of he--!" He would be cut short, however, as something swung from the direction of the monster, hitting Skyle straight in the stomach and swatting him aside. A finned tail? Just what was this monster? Skyle flew back, hitting a tree, before falling onto shaky legs. Alright, this may just be harder than he had initially thought. Good news, though. The monster's attention was now on Skyle, as he began to rush towards the huntsman spider.
