Before the spar started, Daniel took his time to meditate in order to sharpen his concentration. He focused on the image of a crow sitting on tree as he stood there, motionlessly with his hand leaning on the hilt of his sword. He wasn’t exactly sure what Giovanni was doing, but he assumed that she was preparing both her body and mind for combat as well just like he was. As the image of the bird that he had imagined flew from the tree, he heard an unfamiliar footstep heading towards their general direction. When the swordsman opened his eyes and turned, he saw a familiar, silver-haired man. On his side, he seemed to carry a single-edged broadsword. He could see the familiarities between his and the sword that Daniel had with him, but they weren’t exactly alike. In his opinion, that weapon was well-meant for thrusting much like other broadswords that had cross guards on the hilt. It was an interesting weapon of choice nonetheless due to its completely unorthodox design for a weapon.
“Oh, good to have you join us, Aeon.”
“So, are we just sparring with weapons and fists, or are we using magic as well?”
Honestly, was that really supposed to be a question? If Daniel was free to take off his disguise and say what he had wished, he would be telling Aeon that asking such things should be completely trivial in a spar. To him, a term: ‘sparring’ was meant to serve as a measure of a warrior, to see how well they would fare in true combat without killing his or her opponents. The measure of warrior not just came from their discipline, but also their skill and cunning on the battlefield as well. One had be well-versed in the art of war in order to defeat their enemies, and polish their techniques to perfection through constant battle. That was the exact philosophy that all warriors who grab swords in their hands had to carry on with them.
“If I may interject… my philosophy is that sparring is that it should truly simulate a real combat. There shouldn’t be any rules against it except the fact that killing during this exercise is strictly forbidden.” Daniel spoke, “Therefore, we should all go out at each other. No holds barred, using whatever method we have to dispose of our opponents until we can’t fight anymore. Without doing such things, there is no way that we can improve ourselves. Don’t you agree?”
