"They are useful, though it takes years of training to be able to use one as well as I do. Typically it'd take too much energy or time to shift things in and out, but I can do most stuff pretty rapidly, though there are still plenty of things that I can't shift quickly. For instance, I need to wait a little bit before changing my weapons out, or my armor for that matter. But clothing, that's old hat." he said in response to Ellie's wishing for requip magic. Honestly, he had been using it for so long that he had become very used to having all of his clothing accessible at once, though, he also remembered back when he didn't use Requip magic, and had to change like everyone else. The thought, well, it seemed alien to him now, requip made up a lot of who he was, and to go back to that mundane, dimension-free way of changing, it almost sent shivers down his spine just thinking about it.
Ellie seemed to be suspicious of his intent when he swam around her, and yet she stayed right where she was, an absolutely perfect target. The events that proceeded afterward went off without a hitch. His sudden requipping of his Water-Element staff was so sudden and unexpected that Ellie didn't have time to react before he launched his tidal assault. The thing about Kai's staff, which he had conveniently placed out of mind, was then when the blade was swung it fired a high pressure water bullet from it, but, since it was aimed in the water, it made a wave instead, one large enough to carry Ellie across their part of the lake to the shallow end across their section.
As Ellie spluttered and shouted from across the water, Kai let the weapon go back into his dimension and simply laughed at her and dove underwater for a moment. When he surfaced, Ellie was swimming rapidly towards him, so he paddled in place and floated in the deep water, waiting for her. She was small enough to not do much damage even if she hit him, though...if she used a spell of destruction magic on him, that might be a pain.
Indeed, Ellie was aiming to ram him, and when she did, he moved a few feet in the water, but not much due to his larger size. But then, as a follow up she grabbed him around the middle, and pushing off the bottom, which wasn't so deep after all, she picked him up and over her head, slamming him back down into the water. The sudden dunking of his head and body caused Kai to swallow and gag upon a large amount of lake water. When he swam from her grasp after she brought him down, he came up, spluttering and coughing. Really, Ellie did take things far, perhaps a little too far, but if something was worth doing, it was worth overdoing.
In an effort to put some distance between himself and Ellie, Kai swam towards the shore, where Ellie had left her clothing and purse, looking back with another glint of cheekiness in his eye. Of course, he wouldn't do anything to Ellie's clothing, but to give her the paranoia or distress that he might do something could just put and end to their squabble, and might bring them back to the shore and into a position to dry off and head home.
